WHAT IS SCULPTRA?
Sculptra’s active ingredient is FDA Approved poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It is unique in that it stimulates adipocytes, promoting collagen and elastin production to restore lost volume and vitality in the skin. It is ideal for treating areas of the face where plumpness has been lost due to ageing and weight loss.
Sculptra activates your skin cells to produce up to up to 66.5% more collagen and 34% more elastin.
But more uniquely, it is proven to stimulate adipose tissue growth for increased natural volume.
Loss of collagen is acknowledged as a universal cause of ageing. From the age of 20, our body’s collagen production starts to decline at a rate of 1% per year. The impact of this is the loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin, as well as a reduction in radiance. As new collagen is created, it provides a structural foundation that restores the look of fullness by correcting volume deficiencies – including deeper facial wrinkles and folds.
GRADUALLY RESTORING VOLUME
Firstly, Sculptra does not behave like other dermal fillers, as it does not give an immediate plumping effect. Instead, Sculptra gradually builds volume over time by stimulating a process known as ‘adipogenesis’, which is the growth of adipose tissue – a layer of fat within the skin, that is crucial for skin barrier function, vascularity, and structural integrity. This, combined with collagen and elastic helps restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin.
EFFECTS
- Collagen stimulation – Clinical studies demonstrate that PLLA gradually promotes collagen growth, increasing collagen type 1 by up to 66.5% 3 months after injection.
- Adipocyte Growth – The environment created provides support for ‘adipogenesis’, stimulating growth in the dermal white adipose tissue.
